Why is it such a struggle to get things done that are for our own good? They aren't extremely difficult and usually don't take a ton of time or effort. In my case these things include drinking more water each day, getting up as soon as the alarm goes off, using free time to exercise, and washing that huge pile of laundry waiting to be cleaned (just to name a few). There are many excuses I come up with in order to delay doing these tasks. I say to myself “I have more pressing matters at hand. I can’t muster the energy to do that at the moment. I’ll get to it eventually. I just dont want to!!” I’ve become really good at procrastinating and getting myself distracted with other things.
My children have this problem as well, specifically when it comes to taking a shower. They know they're supposed to take a shower because it’s good for them, but for some reason, they just don't want to. They argue and come up with excuses as to why they don't need to shower. Sometimes, they have good excuses persuading me that they are clean enough to wait just one more day. But then, when the next day comes, the argument ensues. Finally, they give up the fight. It never fails, as soon as the shower begins, their sour attitude suddenly changes. They start to sing and pretend like they are in a waterfall. They begin to realize that showering isn't so bad. Soon, they don’t want the shower to end because it is so much fun. When finished, all clean and refreshed, they ask to shower again! Unfortunately, they forget how much fun it was a few days later…
I have decided to make some of my seemingly “lesser duties" more of a priority. When I am determined to complete the job at hand, I feel a sense of accomplishment and find it somewhat enjoyable. Forcing myself to drink more water will help me feel better, eventually becoming a healthy habit. Not allowing myself to lay in bed after the alarm has gone off will keep me from the stewing on the inevitable fact that I have to get up. Being determined to find time to exercise instead of being lazy during my free time will help me to feel energized. Getting that annoying pile of dirty clothes in the washing machine will reduce the stress of knowing it has to be done.
I’m finally learning that the end results are worth the extra effort it takes to do less desirable things, even when I dont want to. Just like my kids realize after arguing about taking a shower, maybe it's not so bad after all!
How about you? Are there things that you could be more determined to accomplish without procrastinating and complaining? Feel free to comment below!
Until next time, Keep smiling😃👍

I’ve got to get the laundry folded/hung up after being washed. I hate doing that part of the chore. Will remember this next time!
Thanks for taking the time to read my post. I hope you have a fantastic day!
